African Galleries take Armory Show 2024! Here's was to expect...

New York City's premier art fair, The Armory Show, is gearing up for its fourth edition, scheduled to take place from September 6-8 at the Javits Center.

This year's edition continues The Armory Show's commitment to presenting a global view of contemporary art, with 235 leading galleries from around the world participating, representing 35 countries. Among the impressive lineup of exhibitors, Kó, WHATIFTHEWORLD, and SMAC Gallery are making the list as galleries with a presence from the African continent.

Kó Art Space from Nigeria will be exhibiting at the Presents section of the fair. The Presents section highlights emerging galleries that are no more than ten years old, showcasing recent work in solo and dual artist presentations. Other sections of the fair include Galleries, Solo, Focus, Platform, and Not-For-Profit.

South African galleries, SMAC and WHATIFTHEWORLD, will exhibit at the Solo and Focus sections of the fair respectively. The Solo section is dedicated to intimate presentations of work by a single emerging, established, or historic artist working in the 20th or 21st century. Whereas, the Focus section re-engages the experimental spirit and avant-garde histories of the fair’s founding.

These galleries are expected to present a carefully curated selection of works that capture the essence of Africa's viable art scene. Visitors can anticipate encountering a range of mediums, all showing unique perspectives on contemporary African experiences and aesthetics.
