Call for Partnerships: Film Residency for Young Women Filmmakers in Africa Extends Deadline

UNESCO is inviting not-for-profit organizations and institutions operating in Africa to partner in designing and implementing a four-week film residency program for young African women filmmakers.

This initiative, scheduled for 2025, aims to support ten emerging filmmakers by enhancing their creative, technical, and professional skills while fostering a more inclusive African film industry.
About the Residency
The selected partner will manage a residency that provides participants with the opportunity to:
Develop ten short films reflecting their unique perspectives.
Gain industry connections and career development opportunities.
Strengthen their creative and technical filmmaking abilities.
This program builds on UNESCO's commitment to addressing gender disparities in the African film industry, promoting diverse storytelling, and supporting women as creators of cultural goods.
Partner Responsibilities
The chosen organization will oversee:
Residency management, including logistics, coordination, and implementation.
Monitoring and communication throughout the program.
Post-residency follow-up to ensure sustained professional growth for participants.
Eligibility
Eligible applicants must:
Be legally registered and operating in Africa for at least five years.
Include entities such as NGOs, research institutes, universities, foundations, professional associations, or intergovernmental organizations.
Funding
This initiative is supported by an Additional Contribution from the People’s Republic of China to UNESCO. The financial proposal must not exceed $149,000.
