The Museum of Science and Technology (MST) in Accra, Ghana, is currently showcasing a solo exhibition by celebrated artist Elolo Bosoka. Titled “What He Saw Sees When He Went Goes Strolling”, the illustrious exhibition curated by Bernard Akoi-Jackson (Ph.D), presents a unique blend of painterly, sculptural, and digital media, inviting visitors to explore Bosoka's interpretation of everyday life through stunning visual compositions.
Bosoka’s exhibition which kicked off on September 12, running until October 30, 2024, serves as a homecoming, reflecting his journey through various artistic endeavours across cities such as Kumasi, Dakar, Berlin, and Copenhagen. The works presented are not merely objects; they embody a process of exhibition-making itself. Each piece is a re-composition of the artist's experiences, transforming ordinary moments into extraordinary art.
The exhibition captures the essence of urban life, highlighting the beauty in overlooked details—from the decorative friezes on old walls to the everyday items that populate city streets. Bosoka’s works are inspired by his observations during strolls through familiar and foreign landscapes, making them a poignant commentary on the interplay between art and daily living.
In his curatorial statement, Akoi-Jackson describes a wandering artist who pays unhurried attention to the world around him. As Bosoka strolls through urban spaces, he encounters fleeting moments that evoke inspiration. These encounters are distilled into his artwork, resulting in a diverse body that includes paintings, collages, installations, and photographic prints.
The exhibition highlights how Bosoka's artistic practice intertwines with his everyday experiences. Each artwork is a reflection of his journey, a visual diary that captures the essence of his surroundings and the narratives that unfold within them.
Exhibition Date: September 12, running until October 30, 2024
