Fresco Gallery is set to open "Anchors," a group exhibition featuring monoprints and limited edition works by five artists, along with an original soundscape. The exhibition, running from August 10 to September 15, 2024, explores the concept of identity as a grounding force in artistic expression.
The show will feature works by Chigozie Obi, Daëna LaDeese, Mobolaji Ogunrosoye, Myles Igwebuike, and Falida Nkomo. Shiela Chukwuolozie contributes an original soundscape to the exhibition.
Each artist brings a unique perspective on identity:
- Falida Nkomo commemorates her mother's memory
- Daëna LaDeese interrogates her cultural and spiritual identity
- Myles Igwebuike tells transformative stories of African culture
- Chigozie Obi provides social commentary on personal and societal experiences
- Mobolaji Ogunrosoye explores the distortion and perception of (West) African women
The artists employ various printmaking techniques to express their ideas about identity as a source of support, stability, and authentic artistic expression.
The opening reception is scheduled for Saturday, August 10, from 3 to 9 p.m. at Miliki in Victoria Island, Lagos. The exhibition will remain open until September 15, with viewing hours from Tuesday to Sunday, 3 to 10 p.m.
Fresco Gallery, established in 2022, focuses on original prints and editions by emerging and established African artists. The gallery aims to foster connections across African cities and encourage a new generation of art enthusiasts.
