British Artist Jadé Fadojutimi has led a new record at Christie’s 20th/21st century London evening sales. Held on March 7, 2024, Fadojutimi's 2021 grandiose masterpiece "The Woven Warped Garden of Ponder", established a new world record for the artist, selling for £1,552,500 at just six minutes of bidding.
Fadojutimi's, "The Woven Warped Garden of Ponder", an acrylic and oil on canvas previously exhibited at her solo museum debut at the Institute of Contemporary Arts, Miami in 2021—was estimated at £400,000 – £ 600,000.
The young artist is certainly casting her hues across the international stage. She has achieved exceptional critical acclaim over the past seven years - in 2021, she became the youngest artist to be included in the Tate’s collection, and debuted at the Venice Biennale the following year.
The auction sales held alongside The Art of the Surreal Evening Sale realized a collective amount totaling £196,685,600 ( $250,380,769 / €229,335,410), a shot up of 17% jump over last year’s figures with René Magritte’s "L’ami intime (The Intimate Friend)" taking the lead at the steep amount of £33,660,000.
