Nigerian-British artist Tunji Adeniyi-Jones will be celebrating the launch of his latest book, "Encounters," with a special book signing event on October 12, 2024, at the Somerset House Book Shop during the 1-54 Contemporary African Art Fair.
Adeniyi-Jones's book signing coincides with his participation in the Nigerian Pavilion at the 2024 Venice Biennale, where his work engages deeply with cultural narratives and the human experience.
Tunji Adeniyi-Jones is rooted in West African aesthetics and dedicates his work as a tribute to preserving his Yoruba heritage. He also challenges the concept of idolatry from a distinct diasporic perspective.
Published by Neuendorf, "Encounters” provides a comprehensive overview of Adeniyi-Jones's artistic output over the past eight years. It showcases a recurring cast of characters and compositions that embody both uniformity and individuality—a concept that Adeniyi-Jones actively explores through his art. The book features the artist's paintings, works on paper, and prints and features essays by Albert Neuendorf and Ekow Eshun, as well as a conversation between Adeniyi-Jones and Osei Bonsu, senior curator at Tate Modern.
To commemorate the new publication's launch, the book signing will be followed by an engaging conversation with the British curator, and broadcaster, Ekow Eshun.
